James Imray and his wife Elizabeth (née Cutbill) were born, brought up and married in Spitalfields. James was the son of a Scottish immigrant dyer, Elizabeth the descendant of Norfolk weavers. They lived in Princelet Street after their marriage, and James went on to found the nautical chart publishing company which still bears his name. Elizabeth died of consumption in 1836, the year the Christ Church spire burnt down. She was buried in the church.
